Risdon Excited for his first Sydney Derby

Wanderers right back Josh Risdon is excited about getting the opportunity to play in his first Sydney Derby since crossing over from Perth to Western Sydney.

The defender has been told by his new team-mates what to expect from one of the biggest fixtures on the A-League calendar Saturday night.

“The atmosphere is incredible. The intensity is going to be tough, I am really looking forward to it and hopefully we can get a win,” says Risdon.

The 25 Year Old right back is not going to get starstruck over the Sydney Derby, and will treat the match against Sydney FC as a normal match.

“I’m just going to prepare it as a normal game,” Risdon said.

“It’s my first derby, just looking forward to getting out there.”

Risdon says the formation is still similar to what former Wanderers coach Tony Popovic had instilled into the team, and can see similarities between him and caretaker coach Hayden Foxe’s game plan.

“It was very similar to what Poppa had instilled, Foxe has been keeping everything quite similar, we have our very high standards, not much has changed. All the boys are sticking together, and we’ve all got that one goal towards the end of the season.”

Risdon is aiming to get back into the Socceroos squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Houndras which begins in over a fortnights time, and says Ange Postecoglou watches the local games with a keen eye.

“It’s important I play well, Ange looks at how you play at club level. Keep my momentum going and put in some good performances over the next few games so I can go back into the squad for those two upcoming qualifiers,” he said.

“He wasn’t too stressed about the games coming up, four more competitive games and I think we will qualify.”
