Kalezic: “We Want To Show Everybody”

Wellington Phoenix coach Darije Kalezic admits his team dominated most of the play, but failed again in securing points in their 1-0 loss to Melbourne City on Saturday.

Kalezic said Ross McCormack’s free kick from 30 yards out was more than enough on this occasion to get a victory for City.

“We dominated the game today, I think we had 60%.” he said.

“We created enough chances to make a goal, and enough chances to win the game. Unfortunately, if you don’t get a goal you don’t win the game.”

The Bosnian was asked about if his strikers need to take more chances in games against teams like City, and if he needed to look at bringing in new strikers.

“In this time of the season, we are very glad on how we develop our players, and how we play in the A-League,” he said.

“We know by the club what we are doing, we have a new vision. We are going to take time for that.”

He admitted as well that the Phoenix have been far from successful over the last decade, but is confident under a new leadership can bring respect back to football in New Zealand.

“We want to show everybody, all players how we want to play, how we want to develop them,” he said.

“We are in no rush, the statistics in the last 10 years, Wellington Phoenix are not great from the beginning of the season. Everything is realistic, and alone we have been getting compliments with how we have been playing.”
