Arzani tipped to secure World Cup birth

Fox Sports football presenter Adam Peacock has revealed that exciting youngster Daniel Arzani is tipped to make the Socceroos’ final 23-man squad for this month’s World Cup.

It’s been a rapid rise to prominence for Arzani following an impressive campaign for Melbourne City playing as a right winger, showcasing impressive technique and dare with the ball at his feet.

It is these qualities that make him a real point of difference in a squad lacking flair and incisiveness.

“From what I’m hearing out of the camp, Daniel Arzani is going to make the 23, which is fantastic news,” Peacock told SEN Mornings.

“He is the most dynamic young player we’ve got in Australian football.

“For him to get the opportunity, even if he doesn’t play in Russia, to spend time around a guy like Bert van Marwijk and also the senior players in a camp like situation, like a World Cup can only bring, is only going to be beneficial for his future prospects.”

Peacock says Australia’s friendly against the Czech Republic tonight will be an indicator as to how Van Marwijk will set up the team up, with a focus on the defensive shape without the ball.

“It’s more about how we look like we’re going to play in that first game against France,” he said.

“They’re going to look a lot better than us at stages during the match and it’s how to contend with that and then cause them problems going the other way.

“It’s a different style we’re going to see in terms of being more compact when we don’t have the ball as opposed to Ange Postecoglou sides who wanted to press and push up the park quicker."

The Socceroos’ final squad of 23 will be announced on the 4th of June.
