Premier League on the cards for Socceroos star Leckie?

Herald Sun chief soccer writer David Davutovic says Australian star Mathew Leckie is “very much suited” to the English Premier League.

Leckie has impressed with his World Cup performances for the Socceroos in Russia so far, which could lead to interest from the world’s most popular league.

Currently with Hertha Berlin in the German Bundesliga, the 27-year-old Melbourne-born winger operates with a playing style that would stack up in the Premier League according to Davutovic.

“He is playing for a big club in Germany, Hertha Berlin, and Germany’s probably the third best league in the world at the moment,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“He has done really well but there have been English clubs looking at him and obviously the Premier League is the highest profile league in the world.

“His bullocking style, and he did play AFL for a year or two in the Western suburbs of Melbourne and you can see that in him, he doesn’t mind planting a tackle and a hip and shoulder.

“His style is very much suited to the Premier League. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets offers off the back of his fantastic performances.”

Leckie has been in Germany since 2011 and has amassed well over 200 first team appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach, FSV Frankfurt, FC Ingolstadt and Hertha since moving from Adelaide United.
