Samuel Eto’o considering A-League move

Iconic striker Samuel Eto’o has been linked with a move to the A-League, after informing his agent he is eyeing one final move before his career comes to a close.

Cameroonian legend Eto’o is currently plying his trade for Turkish side Konyaspor and has 12 months to run on his current contract.

The 37-year-old hasn’t lost his eye for a goal, despite being in the twilight of his career, scoring 57 goals in his last 89 appearances in Turkey.

Sydney-based agent Engin Durmus, of AFS Sports Management, has links to Eto’o’s representatives and stated the veteran marksman sees Australia as an “interesting territory”.

“Don’t be fooled by his age, he’s kept himself supremely fit and his recent scoring record proves he still has a great eye for goal,” Durmus said.

“He’s at a stage where he is also passing on a lot of his knowledge to younger players and helping them develop.

“His long-term vision is to coach – but right now he still has a huge amount to offer on the field.

“He sees Australia as largely unknown but interesting territory, although he was part of the Cameroon Olympic team which won gold here at the 2000 Games in Sydney.”

Since making his professional debut for Spanish outfit Mallorca in 2003, Eto’o has scored 334 goals and won a total of 19 major trophies, winning the Champions League a total of three times, twice with Barcelona and once with Inter Milan, while also enjoying spells at Premier League clubs Chelsea and Everton.

Eto’o, who has also played for Sampdoria in Italy and Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia, has also won the African Cup of Nations on two occasions with Cameroon.
