Socceroos legend Cahill absolutely deserving of farewell match: Bosnich

Former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Bosnich says Tim Cahill is totally deserving of a farewell match after his outstanding service to the Australian national team.

Cahill retired from international football in July after the 2018 World Cup in Russia, abut Football Federation Australia have now granted him a farewell match, scheduled for November 20 against Lebanon in Sydney.

Bosnich believes the testimonial match won’t be a distraction for new Socceroos coach Graham Arnold, as he prepares for the upcoming Asian Cup in January next year in the United Arab Emirates.

“It’s always an important time for a manager, but the tournament's not until January,” Bosnich told SEN Afternoons.

“Well done to Graham Arnold and the FFA for giving it to him.

“The bottom line is he is our greatest capped outfield player and he has provided wonderful service for the Socceroos.

“I think he’s been the best player in a Socceroos shirt and by far our best performer – I think he deserves a farewell.

“I think it’s a wonderful tribute to one of the true legends of the Socceroos.

CAHILL RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

“There’s a lot of people who don’t like the way he comes across, and that’s understandable.

“But forget about all that, you have to respect what he has achieved for the Socceroos. Name me a better performer for the Socceroos in the last 20 years?”

Cahill won 107 caps for the Socceroos, scoring a record 50 goals with five of those coming across four World Cup campaigns.
