Could this Cup Final hero be in line for a Socceroos recall?

Fox Sports commentator Simon Hill has heaped praise on Adelaide United winger Craig Goodwin after his match-winning brace in last night’s FFA Cup Final against Sydney FC.

Goodwin opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick before thumping home the decisive goal to seal the Reds’ second domestic cup triumph.

After a two-year spell with Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam, Hill thinks the 26-year-old is now better placed to make an impact with the Socceroos if given the opportunity.

“Graham Arnold – the national coach – was there last night watching on, I’m sure he would have been taking one or two notes,” Hill told SEN Afternoons.

“Craig has always had that potential and he looks, if anything, to be a better player now in his second spell in Australia.

“He was over in Holland in the last year or two with Sparta Rotterdam and I think he’s got a harder edge to his game, has that little bit more mongrel that he didn’t have before.

“He’s always had the raw ability to be able to play the game, but now he seems to have that added focus, those two goals last night were just sublime.”

Goodwin, who last played for Australia in 2013, will be in the mix to feature in Arnold’s squad for next year’s Asian Cup in the UAE.
