24 Jan Champions-elect Liverpool go 40 unbeaten

Liverpool’s unbeaten run has hit 40 games after a late Roberto Firmino strike sealed a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Firmino’s 10th goal of the season moved the Reds 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League – with another game still in hand – and a step closer to a first league title since 1990.

Jurgen Klopp’s men became just the fourth top-flight English side to go 40 games unbeaten and are eyeing off the record of 49 held by Arsenal’s Invincibles.

With West Ham, Southampton, Norwich, West Ham again, Watford and Bournemouth to come, Liverpool could equal the Gunners unbeaten mark away at Manchester City on April 5th.

It’s now 14 straight wins for the European champions who boast an incredible record of 22 wins from 23 starts and 67 points out of a possible 69.

The hamstring injury to star winger Sadio Mane put a slight dampener on the hard-fought victory against a tricky Wolves side.
