Former Barcelona coach fancies A-League job over Premier League

Former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has revealed he would prefer to continue his managerial career in Australia over the Premier League.

Valverde, who was sacked by the Spanish giants in January after winning won two La Liga titles, would surprisingly angle for an A-League job instead of a move to England.

Speaking at the Bilbao International Football Summit on Thursday, Valverde said: “People ask me sometimes ‘How about the Premier League?’ and I say: ‘Well actually I’d like to go to Australia’.”

“A career in football does not last forever and sometimes you think you have to take the opportunity to live in strange places.”

Boasting an impressive CV, Valverde has managed big La Liga clubs Valencia, Villareal, Athletic Bilbao as well as Greek powerhouse Olympiacos.

Two A-League jobs could be up for grabs if Valverde was indeed interested in moving to Australia.

Melbourne Victory parted ways with Marco Kurz in January with Carlos Salvachua appointed interim coach until the season’s end.

Western Sydney Wanderers is looking for a new coach following the recent sacking of German Markus Babbel.
