UCL: Dortmund wonderkid strikes again, Liverpool shut out by Atletico

Erling Haaland’s love affair with the Champions League has continued.

Haaland, 19, netted a brace to lift Borussia Dortmund to a 2-1 first leg win over PSG in their Round of 16 tie, making it 11 goals in seven games in all competitions since signing for the Bundesliga club in January.

He quickly cancelled out Neymar’s equaliser with a furious long-range strike that almost burst the net. His first goal was a typical predatory finish inside the box.

The Norwegian sensation, who joined Dortmund for a fee of just €20m from Red Bull Salzburg, became the first player to score for two different clubs in the same Champions League campaign.

It’s now 10 goals in seven games for the striker, capitulating him to equal top scorer in this season’s competition, alongside Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski.

Haaland’s numbers this season make for remarkable reading: 37 goals, eight assists and six hat-tricks from 28 games, making him one of the hottest young prospects in world football.

In the other Round of 16 tie this morning AEDST, Atletico Madrid edged reigning champions Liverpool courtesy of an early Saul Niguez goal.

Masterminded by their Argentine manager Diego Simeone, the Reds failed to break down a typically organised Atletico side.

The second leg for both these ties will be played on March 12.
